Today’s accounting is about more than crunching numbers. It’s about analyzing those numbers to make decisions, craft strategies, and shape the future of a business. As the language of business, accounting studies the methods of recording, reporting, and examining the financial information and economic outlook of a business for a variety of audiences, including shareholders and auditors, employees, and economists. Accounting graduates who meet the requirements of the State Board of Public Accountancy of Indiana are eligible to sit for the Uniform C.P.A. Examination in Indiana. Those who do not want to become a C.P.A. may pursue internal auditing instead.

Finance may start on a spreadsheet, but the art of understanding and interpreting how individuals and corporations allocate their assets over time and under uncertain economic conditions goes well beyond the confines of calculations. Think of finance as data-driven decision making. Where others just see numbers, financial advisors, brokers, business analysts, and chief financial officers see a blueprint to build a strong bottom line.

If you are a “people” person, this would be a good major for you. As a human resource manager, you will understand how to get people to be the best they can be and to turn their performance into success for the organization. Your work will give you a say in organizational structure, change management, work design, and more.
Human resource (HR) managers are the epitome of “people” people. Think of them as casting directors who help put the right people in the right job—and then develop the culture and compensation packages to keep them motivated. But the focus of HR is bigger than acquiring and managing talent.
While human resource managers do recruit, hire, train, and assess a company's talent—what many would call an organization’s true assets—their core role is to understand how to get people to be the best they can be and turn their performance into success for the organization. To that end, human resource managers play a strategic role, impacting decisions about organizational structure, change management, work design, and more.
When you enter the human resource management field, you may travel the traditional route of human resources and labor relations—such as compliance with employment and labor laws, management development, wage and salary administration, organizational planning, and contract negotiation—or you may choose to jump into the newer areas in the behavioral sciences, tracking their implications for human resource management programs.
