When you graduate from college, you earn a degree. At IU Indianapolis, we have two types of schools:
- degree-granting schools
- colleges that support and enrich your academic experience but do not grant degrees
University College does not grant degrees. We serve as your launchpad, and we support you through the start of college to your transition into your degree-granting school, from which you’ll graduate.
Nearly half of all new IU Indy students begin in University College as a pre-major or Exploratory student. While in University College, you’ll work toward meeting the admission requirements of your degree-granting school. Our goal is to help you transition to your program before you reach junior standing, defined as 60 or more earned credit hours. Most students move into their degree-granting school by the end of their first year.
