- Tenure with the Office of Academic and Career Development: Since September 2014.
- Favorite part about the work you do: Getting the opportunity to make students feel like they belong at IU Indianapolis(maybe before they even believe they do). I like having high expectations for my students and then seeing their confidence soar when they go beyond what they think they could do.
- Past jobs and experience: I have worked in several mentoring/coaching capacities around Indianapolis. It tends to be the thing I am drawn to the most. I currently mentor for Starfish (a program for high school students who will receive the 21st Century Scholarship). I get to meet with my student every other week until they graduate high school and have new fun adventures together around Indy.
Advice to students:
- If you want to be successful, be consistent.
- And sometimes you have to unfollow people in real life.
- Lastly, of all the people on the planet, you talk to yourself more than anyone. Make sure you are saying the right things.
If you could be any major in your cluster, what would it be? Why?
Marketing with minors in psychology and neuroscience and a certificate in nutrition. I like to understand the mind/body connection and how nutrition can impact our mental and physical health. Then I'd use my marketing major to educate and share that message to better serve our community.
Quick facts about me: I’m from a small town in Carroll County, Indiana. I currently live in McCordsville with my husband, Craig. I've known for most of my life that I was going to work with students in some sort of capacity. I'm a third-generation educator. As you can see from my alma mater, my retention rate at IU Indianapolis is 100%. I live for basketball season—grew up a Boilermaker fan and continue to bleed black and gold #BoilerUp. I really enjoy cooking, fitness, and staying active. My current favorite workout is Reformer Pilates. I also love to travel and consider myself a foodie.
