Department:
Academic and Career Development
Campus:
IU Indianapolis

Education:

  • Master of Science in Student Affairs and Higher Education, Indiana State University, Terre Haute, Indiana; May 2019
  • Graduate Certificate in Teaching Writing, Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Indiana; May 2020
  • Bachelor of Arts in English with a Concentration in Writing and Literacy, Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Indiana; May 2015
  • Certificate in Human Resource Management, Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology, Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Indiana; May 2015
  • Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Science, Ivy Tech Community College, Indianapolis, Indiana; December 2012

Professional Experience:

  • Tenure with the Office of Academic and Career Development: I began working as a career consultant for the STEM cluster in April 2022.
  • Favorite part about the work you do:
    • I enjoy helping students explore career options and understand how the courses they take translate to those careers.
    • One of the best things about working with students is watching them grow throughout their educational journey.
  • Past jobs and experience:
    • At IU Indianapolis, I have worked as a student success coach and general studies advisor in the Center for Transfer and Adult Students.
    • Prior to IU Indianapolis, I worked at Ivy Tech Community College in roles including the assistant director of TRIO Student Support Services, a graduate assistant in the Systems Office, and as a tutor.
    • In a prior life, I worked in accounting, specializing in forensic accounting.

Advice to students: Make sure you make your coursework a priority, but not your only priority. Get involved on campus and join a club or organization. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it and offer it when you can give it.

Additionally, if your Plan A isn't what you thought it would be, don't be afraid to explore Plan B, C, or even D. Meet with your advisor or career consultant to explore options!

If you could be any major in your cluster, what would it be? Why?
I would study environmental science. I am fascinated with this degree because, as an avid gardener, I know how environmental issues affect every aspect of our being via what we consume. Being able to study how to prevent pollution and contamination and how to clean those areas already polluted is so very important and would be rewarding to me.

Biography: Although I was born in Brazil, Indiana, I have lived in many different places, from Pennsylvania to Kansas and most places in between! I just tell people I am from the country. Once we moved back to Indiana, I lived in a very rural setting on a small farm. I enjoy gardening . . . growing vegetables, flowers don’t stand a chance around me! I have a small nonprofit community garden. I love to “put up” (e.g., can, freeze, dehydrate) what I grow. I also enjoy spending weekends at our RV on the lake where the whole family can decompress and unplug. I am a wife, a mom to three daughters and one son, and a Grammy to one grandson and four granddaughters! Oh, I also have my baby, a La-Chon (Lhasa Apso-Bichon Frise mix) named Harold.
